Arkansas-Fort Smith rode the backs of Heidi Luks and Morgan Banner, who accounted for 35 of the Lions' 60 kills as it took a 3-1 (18-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-22) win over The University of Texas of the Permian Basin.

Luks was impressive for the Lions, who secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Heartland Conference Tournament, by registering 23 kills with just three errors in 43 total attacks.  The Tallinn, Estonia native not only collected two kills with her non-dominant arm, she also picked up 13 digs, five block assists and two service aces.  Banner was a force offensively as well with 12 kills, leading the Lions to their 24th win of the season.

The Falcons started off on fire as they trailed early in the first set before breaking an 8-8 tie with a 5-0 run to lead 13-8.  A kill by Melissa Lusk would eventually give UTPB a 16-10 lead.  She would finish with nine on the afternoon and had a team-high four block assists.

A service error by Banner would give the Falcons a 22-15 lead, its largest of the game before a bad set by Fabiane Nass gave UTPB a one set advantage in the match.

The momentum would not last long as the Lions jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second set and would hold at least a two point advantage the rest of the way.  A service ace by Keely Rivera gave Arkansas-Fort Smith a seven point edge (16-9) which capped off a 5-0 run.  UTPB would come within four on two different occasions, but an attack error by the Falcons closed out the set and evened the match at one set apiece.

The third set saw the Falcons jump out to a 3-1 lead and would eventually take a 7-4 advantage on a kill by Terra Peil.  A 4-0 run by the Lions gave them an 8-7 lead on a kill by Jordan Erz before a service ace by Luks broke an 11-11 tie, giving Arkansas-Fort Smith the lead for good.  Luks ace was the start of a 7-0 run which eventually gave the Lions a 17-11 lead.  UTPB was never able to get back on track as it would fall in the third set.

Arkansas-Fort Smith wasted little time in the fourth set, jetting out to a 7-1 lead.  The quick start didn't phase the Falcons as they fought their way back to lead 13-12 on a kill by Keeley Brogdon, who would finish with nine for the match.  The teams would exchange points for the rest of the way until Arkansas-Fort Smith used a 5-0 run to lead 23-18.  It would use that momentum to finish off the Falcons as a kill by Nass closed out the match.

UTPB finished the regular season with a 19-15 overall and 8-6 Heartland Conference mark.  The Falcons will be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming tournament and will take on Arkansas-Fort Smith in the opening round on Friday in Austin.
