WICHITA, Kan. – The University of Texas of the Permian Basin snapped a two-match losing skid with a 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 25-14, 25-23) Heartland Conference victory over Newman.

Offensively, the Falcons rode the backs of Jamie Rodell and Melissa Lusk, who combined for 25 of the team's 50 kills, while Danae Eckart seemed to pick up everything with 38 digs, one off her career-high.

In the first set, the Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead and eventually went 10-6 after Ariel Fralick picked up one of the team's services aces.  Newman eventually took a 21-19 advantage after an attack error by UTPB capped off a 5-1 run by the Jets.  The lead didn't last long as the Falcons out-scored Newman 6-2 the rest of the way to take the early match lead.

Like the first set, the Falcons jumped out to an early lead after a Newman service error gave the Falcons a 10-5 edge.  The Jets would eventually tie the set at 13 after Haley Dotson collected one of her match-high 21 kills.  The teams would exchange points until the Jets closed out the set with a 7-2 run to tie the match at one each.

The Falcons trailed briefly to start the third set, but an attack error by Dotson gave UTPB a 7-6 lead it would not relinquish the rest of the way.  UTPB hit .300 for the set, picking up 12 kills with just three errors while the Jets hit a match-low -.059.

In the fourth and deciding set, the teams exchanged points for most of the game, which was tied 10 times.  Another error by Dotson gave UTPB the lead for good (20-19) as the Falcons improved to 11-10 on the year and tied their conference record at 3-3.

As a team, UTPB hit .221, picking up 50 kills in 145 attempts, while batting down 20 block assists.  The Falcons will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Arkansas-Fort Smith at noon.
