Logan Sharp scored a goal 17 minutes into the contest, but two first half goals and two in the second lifted Northeastern State to a 4-1 win over The University of Texas of the Permian Basin.
Sharp's third goal of the season came on pass from
Tyler Gibson on the right side before he beat the last defender, shooting the ball past the goal keeper which gave UTPB the early lead. Sharp took two shots in the game and made his lone shot on goal count.
Sambo Claros, who scored once and added three assists, tied the match at the 22:58 mark on a pass from Juan Gonzalez before Terrence Smith beat UTPB goal keeper
Craig Branum on a one-on-one five minutes before the break to give the Riverhawks the lead for good.
Northeastern State added to its lead early in the second half when Matheus Baldo took a pass from Claros before beating
Chris Benavides in goal. Baldo didn't shoot right away as he waited for numerous UTPB defenders to attempt to block the goal mouth before his shot bounced off the left post then found the back of the net.
The Riverhawks' final goal looked more like a pin ball game as Claros' corner kick hit off the head of Andre Hernandez before Bo White ricocheted the shot with his header into the right corner of the net.
UTPB took 12 shots in the game, six of which were on goal with Gibson leading the way once again with six attempts. The Riverhawks had a flurry of shots, 27 to be exact, along with 13 on goal. Branum finished with three saves while Benavides had six in the second half.
The Falcons fell to 4-9 on the year and will head to Portales, N.M. on Wed. to take on Eastern New Mexico.
