Tarleton State recorded 41 kills and held the University of Texas of the Permian Basin volleyball team to a .020 hitting percentage which led to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-14) win over the Falcons.
Ireslis Ilarraza led the way with a match-high 11 kills, while Flynn Harrell and Rachel Wolf added nine and eight respectively. Four of Ilarraza's put downs came in the first set, where the TexAnns used a 12-4 run down the stretch to give them the first set win. UTPB held a 15-13 lead after a rare kill by libero Danae Eckart. Unfortunately for the Falcons, they would score just four more points the rest of the way, all of which came off Tarleton State mistakes.
Tarleton's Monica Hamel broke a 9-9 tie in the second set on one of her five kills on the match which gave the TexAnns the lead for good. The Falcons would pull within one late in the set (19-18), but Tarleton would go on a 5-1 run the rest of the way to take a 2-0 match lead.
The Falcons kept the third set close early, but an 8-1 run by the TexAnns would give them a 14-7 advantage, which they would not lose the rest of the way.
Freshman Melissa Lusk continues lead the team offensively with eight kills, while Terra Peil had two solo blocks and three assists to lead the Falcons defensively.
UTPB will get a short break as they will be off until Thursday, Nov. 4 when it travels to Wichita, Kans. To take on Newman in a match that could decide who will earn a berth to the Heartland Conference Tournament.
