In a game that saw its fair share of pushing and shoving, the University of Texas of the Permian Basin men's soccer team muscled out a 1-0 win over St. Mary's, marking the second time this season the Falcons have defeated the Rattlers.

UTPB's Jose Anchondo saved the Falcons from going into overtime after he converted a penalty kick with 45 seconds to go in regulation. The Falcons got inside the box before a St. Mary's player was called for illegally tackling a UTPB player which led to the penalty kick.

The Falcons didn't have many chances in the second half, tallying just four of their 15 shots in the period. St. Mary's on the other hand, controlled the tempo with nine shots, five of which were on goal in the second.

In the first half, however, UTPB had numerous chances to score, including a header by Tyler Gibson that St. Mary's goal keeper David Schmelzer made a diving stop to keep it from going in. George Lara had three shots for the Falcons, while four others had two.

Both St. Mary's and UTPB had one player receive a yellow card for sportsmanship and both came with less than 10 minutes to play.

The Falcons moved to 2-11 overall and 2-4 in Heartland Conference play and will be back in action Sunday when they host Texas A&M International at 4 p.m.
