After winning three-straight matches for the first time this season, the University of Texas of the Permian Basin volleyball team dropped a pair of contests in the second and final day of the UTPB Classic. The Falcons fell to Cameron 3-1 before dropping a 3-0 decision to Fort Hays State.

In the first match against Cameron, the Falcons struggled offensively hitting .057 for the match as the Aggies took a 25-12, 19-25, 25-23, 25-20 over UTPB. In the first game, the Falcons were never able to get into an offensive rhythm, collecting seven kills on 33 attempts but committed nine errors for a negative hitting percentage. The Aggies on the other hand, had just one hitting error while racking up 11 kills to go along with four total team blocks.

UTPB was able to bounce back in game two after Jamie Roddell, who was named to the UTPB Classic All-Tournament Team, picked up six of her team-high 14 kills in the contest. The Falcons trailed 10-8 after a service error, but would eventually take the lead for good when Melissa Lusk and Roddell combined for a block to break a 10-10 tie. They would close out the game on a 5-0 run to tie the match at one game each.

The Falcons were plagued offensively once again in the third set as they hit .024. UTPB held an 18-15 lead after a service error by Cameron, but the Tigers used a 6-0 run to lead 21-18. Roddell kept the match close as her kill tied it at 23, but back-to-back kills by Cameron gave the Aggies a 2-1 game advantage.

Game four wasn't much better for UTPB offensively as it hit .024, collecting nine kills to go along with eight errors. Setter Sara Torres picked up one of her two services aces to break a 13-13 tie, but Cameron would even the score at 14 on a kill by Filly Ezenwa. The teams would exchange points until the Aggies used an 11-3 run to win the fourth and deciding game.

In the second match, Fort Hays State racked up 55 kills with just 22 errors to take a 25-19, 25-15, 25-23 win over UTPB. Tracie Hileman, who was named the tournament's MPV, led the way for the Tigers with 19 kills, while Makayla McPhail and Kylie Stoppel had 14 and 11 respectively. On the flip side, the Falcons garnered 25 kills with Alex Genung and Roddell tallying seven each.

UTPB will hit the road for its next match as the Falcons travel to Plainview to take on Wayland Baptist on Tuesday before returning home to host Newman in Heartland Conference action on Thursday at 7 p.m.
