Nick Chittum began as the pitching coach at The University of Texas Permian Basin in June 2026.
Chittum was previously the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for the Sul Ross State baseball team (2026 season), and the year before that he was the Director of Pitching Development at Eastern Michigan (2025 season), where he helped in the development of All-Mid-America Conference (MAC) second team selection, Drew Beckner.
Chittum was pitching coach (2024) and head coach (2025) for the Michigan Monarchs of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League. He helped guide the Monarchs to the league playoffs in 2024. Chittum saw two of his pitchers (Gannon Grundman and Logan McLaughlin) named to the All-GLSCL first team.
Chittum played for Eastern Michigan (2021-24), where he pitched in 47 games, had seven wins and two saves and struck out 116 batters with a 6.60 E.R.A. over 170.3 innings. He was a three-time Academic All-MAC selection and made the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team in 2024.
Chittum earned three letters in baseball at Grosse Ile High School (Mich.). As a sophomore (2018), he set the single-season school record with 72 strikeouts. As a senior (2020), he was rated the No. 1 overall right-handed pitching prospect and the fourth best player overall in the State of Michigan by Prep Baseball Report. He was an All-Huron League first team selection and named an honorary participant in the 2020 MHSAA East/West All-Star game, which was canceled due to Covid.
Chittum earned a B.S. in Exercise Science from Eastern Michigan.
