NORMAN, Okla. (September 28, 2026) – The 2026-27 University of Texas Permian Basin men's and women's swimming & diving seasons got underway this weekend at Oklahoma Christian University.

 
UTPB at Oklahoma Christian – Friday, September 25
In its first competition of the 2026-27 season, the UTPB men's and women's swimming teams fell to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) foes Oklahoma Christian and Nebraska-Kearney.

Despite winning eight of 14 events, the UTPB men fell 959.5-868.5 in a very close dual meet against the OC men.

Top individual finishes from the men's dual meet included Nico Turner winning both the 50 backstroke (23.97) and the 100 freestyle (47.65); Paul Neubauer winning the 50 breaststroke (26.68) and finishing second in the 200 IM (1:59.01); Dylan Schrock winning the 1000 freestyle (10:06.96) and finishing second in the 500 freestyle (4:47.62); Sean Greene winning the 200 IM (1:58.59) and finishing second in the 200 freestyle (1:46.95); Zane Garner winning the 100 backstroke (53.01) while finishing second in the 50 backstroke (24.34); and Colin Doyle winning the 50 fly (22.83).

In addition, Dylan Channell put together a pair of second-place finishes in the 50 fly (22.84) and the 100 fly (51.14); Cooper Workman (54.78) was also second in the 100 backstroke; Jacob Domingo (10:37.04) was third in the 1000 freestyle; Daniel Parsley was third in the 200 IM (1:59.90); Carlos Albidrez was third in the 50 breaststroke (28.57); and Brannan Espericueta was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.87).

In the women's tri-meet, UTPB (496 points) was third with three event wins, UNK (625 points) was second, and OC (1057 points) was first.

Top individual finishes from the women's tri-meet included Lyla Micklos (1:57.71) winning the 200 freestyle; Kat Tilley winning the 50 freestyle (28.43) and finishing second in the 100 freestyle (53.96); and Ava McCormack winning the 50 backstroke (28.01) while also taking second in the 100 backstroke (1:02.70).

"The team had really strong swims after a long bus ride earlier that day," said Head Coach Brian Schroeder. "We have improved year-over-year despite faster competition.  I really like where our team is at this point in the season."

Sam Freas Invitational – Saturday, September 26
UTPB returned to the poll for the Sam Freas Invitational. The team had some very successful swims on Saturday afternoon.

After winning six of 13 events, the UTPB men (737.5 points) finished first out of five teams, 50 points in front of Oklahoma Christian (687.5 points) in second. It was the first time in school history the UTPB men's team defeated Oklahoma Christian.

On the men's side, Colin Doyle and Dylan Schrock led the team in points (40), with both guys winning each of their respective races.

Notable finishes for the men's team included Doyle (51.70; 1st place), Paul Neubauer (53.43; 2nd place) and Tanner Antley (54.64; 4th place) each finishing in the top-four of the 100 IM and Sean Greene (57.14; 2nd place), Antley (1:00.86; 3rd place) and Chase Alderman (1:01.15; 4th place) each finishing in the top-four of the 100 breaststroke.

Schrock finished first in both the 200 freestyle (1:42.86) and the 500 freestyle (4:43.49); Doyle (21.11) was also first in the 50 freestyle; and Cooper Workman (1:58.54) won the 200 backstroke.

Dylan Channell (50.75) was second in the 100 fly while Caden Angelle (2:00.48) was fourth in the 200 fly.

Lastly, Zane Garner (52.83; 1st place) and Nico Turner (54.00; 2nd place) were 1-2 in the 100 backstroke and Daniel Parsley (2:10.10; 2nd place) and Greene (2:10.17; 3rd place) finished 2-3 in the 200 backstroke.

In addition, the UTPB women were fifth out of seven teams with 277 points. The women faced some tough competition, including NCAA Division I North Texas (UNT).

On the women's side, Kat Tilley (53.90) finished and fourth and Lyla Micklos (54.57) finished fifth in the 100 freestyle.

In the 100 IM, Rowan McWhorter (1:02.74) finished fifth and Avery Momotiuk (1:03.03) finished sixth.

Momotiuk (2:32.28) also finished sixth in the 200 breaststroke.

Also finishing in fifth place was Micklos (1:02.93) in the 100 backstroke, Rachel Sims (1:03.24) in the 100 fly, and Irene Neumeier (2:27.10) in the 200 fly.

"It was a very good meet for our team," said Head Coach Brian Schroeder. "We got to see where the team was for the first time this year in a competition setting and liked what we saw, which was a combination of freshman and returners putting up points and helping the team against very strong competition."

Next up: UTPB will return to Midland, Texas, to compete against Trinity University (Texas) at COM Aquatics starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 24. It will be the first of three home meets during this Fall season for the Falcons.
