LUBBOCK, Texas (September 18, 2026) – The University of Texas Permian Basin women's cross country team was back in action at the Texas Tech Open at the LCU Cross Country Course on the morning of Friday, February 18.

UTPB was led by Kylie Valenzuela, who in her first-ever 6K race ran a 7:14-minute mile pace (7:13.5). She finished 79th out of 111 runners with a time of 26:56.3.

Next, Celine Maldonado was 91st at 27:54.6, and rounding out the top-three for UTPB was Brianna Valenzuela in 100th place at 29:34.0.

Josilynn Munoz (32:40.0), Sydney Young (32:51.2) and Abbygail Campos (32:57.9) finished in order between 105th and 107th place, respectively, while Katelyn Hernandez (34:06.08) and Angelina Arriaga (34:22.0) were 110th and 111th.

It was the first race as a member of the UTPB cross country team for Munoz, Young and Hernandez.

In the team standings, No. 8 West Texas A&M University finished in first place with 37 points while Texas Tech University was second with 60 points, No. 17 Fort Lewis College was third with 65 points, and Colorado Christian University was fourth with 69 points. UTPB scored 358 points. In all, the field featured six teams that are nationally-ranked in their respective division. The individual winner was senior Lily Mather (21:01.7) from Texas Tech.

UT Permian Basin will compete next at the South Plains College Invitational on the morning from Friday, October 2, in Levelland, Texas. SPC finished 12th at the Texas Tech Open with 269 points.
