DENTON, Texas (October 7, 2026) – The University of Texas Permian Basin women's soccer team had no answers for the offense of No. 25-ranked Texas Woman's University, falling 4-0 on the road against a nationally-ranked opponent for the second match in a row.
UTPB tried to bring the physicality (6 fouls in the first half) to break up the Pioneers' offensive rhythm, but TWU was firing the shot attempts early and often at
Valeria Delgado.
Lauren Wade would open the scoring with a shot to the opposite corner past Delgado's right side in the sixth minute. TWU then made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute when a shot on the ground was blocked by the UTPB defender, but the Pioneers got to the loose ball first as Bri Luna kicked it in just before Delgado could jump on the ball.
The Pioneers showcased their impressive ball control in the offensive zone throughout the first half, leading 16-0 on total shots with seven shots on goal.
It would not be a repeat of last year's matchup between the two teams in which TWU scored twice in the first half before being shut out by the Falcons and backup goalkeeper
Alexia Hernandez in the second half.
In this matchup, TWU added two goals just over two minutes apart in the second half, the second of which came via a penalty kick by Janelle Loazno that grazed off the crossbar and into the left corner of the goal in the 71st minute.
In the end, UTPB was held to zero shot attempts for the first time in over three years (Sept. 23, 2023, in a 2-0 loss at DBU).
UTPB falls to 4-8-0 overall and 1-8-0 in the Lone Star Conference while TWU improves to 12-1-0 and 8-1-0. The Pioneers also improve to 6-0 at home. The Pioneers' only loss so far this season was 1-0 on the road at then-No. 21 Midwestern State University on September 27. As good as its offense has been, TWU's defense has been up to the task as well. Through 13 matches, TWU has scored 31 goals while allowing just two. The Pioneers' defense has recorded 11 shutouts and allowed an average of 0.15 goals per match.
In 2025, the Pioneers finished 16-4-3 overall and 9-2-3 in LSC play, setting a new program record for victories while also appearing in the LSC Tournament Championship match for the first time in program history and earning their first NCAA Tournament win 1-0 over Colorado Mesa on a golden goal by Luna. TWU entered the 2026 season ranked third in the LSC Preseason Poll.
Next up, UTPB will finish off week five of LSC action at home against St. Edward's University. Match time is set for 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, from the UTPB Soccer Field.
With their matchups against the current top-six teams in the LSC standings all done, four of the Falcons' five final matches of the season with come against team with a losing record both overall and in the conference.
