SILVER CITY, N.M. (March 21, 2025) – Playing in its first Lone Star Conference West Division series on the road this season, The University of Texas Permian Basin softball team fell 9-1 in six innings in game one and 7-5 in a comeback effort in game two.

Game 1 (UTPB 1, WNMU 9):
- WNMU started off the game with a leadoff double followed by a two-run home run to left field just four pitches later to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
- A two-out walk and back-to-back stolen bases led to a two-out RBI-single to left field in the bottom of the second, and then a leadoff home run to right field made it a 4-0 lead for the Mustangs in the bottom of the third.
- UTPB was held to just three hits and was hitless until a leadoff single by Taylor Ramirez in the top of the fifth inning. That was followed by a single to center field by Kelsey Valo to move Ramirez to third base, and then Ramirez scored on an RBI-groundout to short by Mia Serrato, making it a 4-1 score.
- However, a leadoff walk in the bottom of the fifth was followed three pitches later by the third home run of the game for WNMU and the second of the day by Lauryn Carbajal, making it a 6-1 Mustangs' lead with her second home run to right field.
- WNMU would add two more runs on a pair of two-out hits later in the fifth inning and then ended the game in the sixth after a leadoff double and back-to-back passed balls to allow the winning-run to score.
- Seven of WNMU's 10 hits in the game went for extra bases (4 doubles; 3 home runs) while the Mustangs also added eight stolen bases.
- The Falcons' defense did not commit an error for the first time since February 23.

Game 2 (UTPB 5, WNMU 7):
- Game two featured a combined five home runs, including three by the Falcons and two by Kaylee Moses as UTPB finished with five runs on six hits while trying to mount a comeback.
- WNMU got 10 hits for the second game in a row.
- Keri Sanford led off the game with a single through the left side before three straight groundouts ended the inning, and then Antonya Lucero's second first-inning home run of the day again to left field gave the Mustangs a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
- UTPB tied it with a leadoff home run to center field by Valo in the top of the second, but WNMU took back the lead with a two-out homer to left field in the bottom of the third.
- UTPB's second leadoff home run of the game came off the bat of Moses with a shot to right field in the top of the fifth inning, making it a 5-2 Falcons' deficit.
- Then after an RBI-double down the left field line by Lauren Lopez in the top of the sixth, Moses went yard again with a two-run blast to left field to pull the Falcons to within two (7-5).
- Unfortunately, a one-out walk by Carlee Quintero in the top of the seventh was followed by a flyout to center field and a groundout to short to end the game.
- Jessica Cantrell (4-9) pitched all six innings for the Falcons allowing eight hits, six total runs and five earned runs.

Team Records:
- UTPB falls to 6-26 overall and 1-21 in the LSC. The Falcons are now 1-12 in away games this season, including an 0-10 mark on the road in conference action.
- WNMU, meanwhile, improves to 9-22 and 6-16.
