Sanford, Krahofer named Edgardo Madrid & Associates Student-Athletes of the Month for February

ODESSA, Texas (March 10, 2025) – Thanks to the generosity and support of Edgardo Madrid & Associates, The University of Texas Permian Basin Athletics Department has announced Keri Sanford (Softball) and Jonas Krahofer (Men's Tennis) as the February Student-Athletes of the Month.

Thanks to the generous sponsorship by Edgardo Madrid & Associates, UTPB Athletics will be recognizing one male and one female student-athlete each month as Student-Athletes of the Month. At the end of the 2024-25 athletics season, one male and one female student-athlete will be selected as UTPB's Student-Athletes of the Year.

During UTPB's first month of the season, Sanford hit .452 while also leading the UTPB softball team in runs scored (18), hits (28) and triples (3). She added 10 runs batted in, five stolen bases, five walks, two doubles and a home run while finishing the month with an on-base percentage of .493 and a slugging percentage of .629. She had 10 multi-hit games, including two 4-for-4 efforts. She also had six games in which she scored at least two runs, including five runs in one game (2/11/25 at Southwest). Sanford ranked in the top-10 in the Lone Star Conference in batting average, hits and triples during the opening month of the season. During UTPB's opening-day sweep of Schreiner University (1/31/25), Sanford finished game one 2-for-4 with two RBI's and two runs scored and was 3-for-4 with two runs scored in game two, making her a combined 5-for-8 with four runs scored and three RBI's from the top spot in the lineup during Opening Day. During the four opening-weekend games, Sanford hit .615 (8-13) and led the team in hits (8), runs scored (8), total bases (10) and stolen bases (3-3). Sanford also finished 4-for-4 with five runs scored and hit her first home run of the season with a three-run home run to left field in a 16-5 game-one win at the University of the Southwest (2/11/25). Lastly, Sanford would again go 4-for-4 with two triples and two runs scored in a game against Texas Woman's University (2/16/25) during the opening weekend of LSC action.

UTPB Head Softball Coach AubreeAna Avila-Oropeza said, "Keri is a spark on the field and in the box. She is an amazing athlete, teammate and leader, and is a key aspect to our starting lineup. I cannot wait to see her progress further."

Krahofer was a combined 9-1 (5-0 doubles; 4-1 singles) while helping lead the UTPB men's tennis team to a 3-2 record during the first month of the season. He was 3-0 at No. 1 doubles and was 4-0 when teaming up with Johnathan Vega (No. 1, 2). Krahofer and Vega won two of their three matches together at No. 1 doubles by a score of 6-0. In singles, Krahofer was a combined 2-0 at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots and was 2-1 in the three-hole. In a 6-1 win at Arizona Christian University on February 1, Krahofer earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles over the No. 39-ranked singles play in the NAIA, Petar Wemmenhove. Against No. 17 nationally-ranked Mississippi College (2/24/25), Krahofer and Vega defeated Alex Benichou Blanchard and Alvaro Saint Martin 6-0 at No. 1 doubles before Krahofer won 7-5, 6-2 over Gustavo Tedesco at No. 5 singles.
