UT Permian Basin athletics keeps racking up the awards as two Falcons – Hayden Kelly and Alexus Quaadman - were recipients of the Lone Star Conference Scholar-Athlete Awards presented annually by the Conference and the student-athlete's institution.
 
Award recipients are selected by their campus and represent outstanding accomplishments in scholarship, athletics, and leadership. Honorees must have participated for at least two years in their sport.
 
Kelly, finished the 2023 season with 114 tackles (68 solo/46 assists), adding 13.5 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, a fumble recovery and forced fumble. He ranked fourth in solo tackles per game (5.8) and 11th in total tackles per game (9.7) in the country. A two-time LSC Defensive Player of the Week, 2023 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America First Team, 2023 D2CCA All-America First Team and All-Super Region 4 First Team, Associated Press Division II All-American Second Team, LSC Linebacker of the Year and All-LSC First Team, D2Football.com Elite 100 Squad and All-Texas Non-FBS Squad.
 
"Hayden Kelly is the absolute best leader I've ever had the opportunity to coach," said Head Football Coach Kris McCullough. "He is elite at everything he does and he deserves any recognition that comes his way."
 
Quaadman was the LSC Defensive Player of the Year, All-LSC First Team, All-Defensive Team, D2CCA All-South Central Region Second Team and a Four time LSC Defensive Player of the Week. She was tied atop the LSC rebounding list (10.6 rpg) and 17th in Division II; set the UTPB single-season UTPB rebounds record (294). Led the conference field goal percentage (.628) and ranked second in blocked shots (44). She is the fourth player in program history to score 1,000 career points and the first player at UTPB to post 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in their career. She finished the 2023 season averaging 10.5 points and recorded 14 double-doubles.
 
"Alexus has displayed remarkable dedication and skill as a student-athlete, making her a highly deserving recipient of this award. She has obtained two degrees and set numerous records, solidifying her as the most accomplished player in program history," said Head Women's Basketball Coach Rae Boothe "What sets her apart is her selfless attitude, prioritizing team success and the improvement of those around her. Thanks to her leadership, she guided her team to their most successful season to date. She has a transformative effect on those she interacts with, including myself as a coach. I am confident that Alexus has a bright future ahead, with many successes awaiting her."
