ODESSA, Texas - Timely hitting and a shutdown performance in the circle by
Destini Trahan led the University of Texas Permian Basin to a 3-2 win over Cameron on Saturday.
Trahan, a senior pitching on senior day, was brilliant. She struck out three but only allowed seven hits on the afternoon for the win. The top of the order had all four hits for the Falcons with
Stephanie Jimenez leading the way with two while
Julia Bumford and
Mia Quintero each had one.
The Aggies scored a pair of runs in the third to take a 2-0 lead. In their half of the inning, the Falcons threatened with a single by Bumford and a double by Quintero but they couldn't push a run across.
The offense remained quiet into the fifth.
Nia Brown was hit by a pitch before a walk to
Emily Andress put two on. An error allowed Quintero to reach and load the bases with one out for Jimenez. The senior came through in the clutch with a double to clear the bases and put the Falcons ahead 3-2. Trahan allowed just one hit over the final two innings for the win.
