Falcons Pick Up A Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LOS LUNAS, N.M. – Sophomore Gabrielle Cabrera had five hits as The University of Texas Permian Basin softball team (1-3) split at the SCRC Tournament, Saturday  at Los Lunas Sports Complex. 

New Mexico Highlands (3-1) – L, 10-5

In the second inning, UTPB struck first as senior Julia Bumford smacked a home run.  New Mexico Highlands scored six runs over the next three innings to lead 6-1 after four.

In the fifth inning, Cabrera and senior Stephanie Jimenez led off with singles.  Following an out, Cabrera was at third and freshman Delaney Doelitsch at first.  Junior Michaella Baker singled to score Cabrera and push Doelitsch to third.

A walk loaded the bases and freshman Nia Brown lifted a sacrifice fly to score Doelitsch to make it 6-3.  The Cowgirls scored four in the bottom half to seal the game.

For UT Permian Basin, senior Destini Trahan (0-1) gave up one hit, three runs and walked three in 1.7 innings.

For New Mexico Highlands, Maya Milano (1-0) gave up 13 hits, five runs, walked five and struck out seven in seven innings.

Colorado State Pueblo (1-3) – W, 12-8

After two innings, UTPB and Colorado State Pueblo were tied at two.  In the bottom of the third, Cabrera and sophomore Kelsey Valo led off with singles.  Senior Mia Quintero doubled to score Cabrera and send Valo to third.

Following an out, freshman Kylie Parker singled to clear the bases.  The Falcons used two hits, a sacrifice bunt, walk and error to score two more runs for a 7-2 lead.

The Thunderwolves scored twice in the fourth.  In the bottom half of the inning, Doelitsch hit a grand slam home run to put UT Permian Basin up 11-4.  CSU-Pueblo scored four in the fifth inning to make it 11-8.  UTPB added an insurance run in the sixth inning.

For UT Permian Basin, Cabrera and Parker had three hits and drove in two runs each.  Freshman Morgan McGaugh (1-0) gave up five hits, eight runs with five earned, walked six and struck out four in 4.7 innings.

For Colorado State Pueblo, Marissa Robertson (0-1) gave up eight hits, seven runs with five earned, walked three and struck out three in three innings.

UT Permian Basin stays in Los Lunas, Sunday, Feb. 3, playing Adams State.  The game is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. MT.
