The University of Texas Permian Basin softball team will look to prove the doubters wrong this season when they return to the diamond on Friday (Feb. 2), as they were predicted to finish 15
th in the LSC Softball Preseason Poll. Additionally, the Falcons had two players named to the preseason players to watch list.
Â
Sophomore Infielder
Keri Sanford had a great start to her collegiate career in 2023, starting all 48 games she played – recording a double, scored 24 runs, drove in seven runs, stole 14 bases and batted .313. Which led to her making the Lone Star Conference All-Freshman team (the first Falcon honored in program history). She also was named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioners Honor Roll.
Â
"We are definitely ready to get back at it this season and we are going to make a comeback," said Sanford.
Â
Freshman Pitcher
Morgan McGaugh was also named a player to watch for the 2024 season and will be making her debut with the Falcons, coming from V.R. Eaton high school.
Â
"This year I want to become a better person and teammate and continue to be supportive of my teammates," said McGaugh.
Â
The Falcons will be on the road when they return to the diamond, competing in the South Central Regional Challenge starting on Friday (Feb. 2) and ending on Sunday (Feb. 4).
