LAREDO, TX - The UT Permian Basin softball program did all of its damage in the top of the first inning but so did Texas A&M International as the two teams combined for 11 of its 15 runs in the opening frame with TAMUI coming out on top, 12-3.
Â
Mia Quintero went yard for the second straight contest, driving in all three of the Falcons runs on a three-run blast with two outs in the first.
Â
Out of the five total baserunners UTPB had, three of them came in that opening half-inning, as
Keri Sanford singled then stole second,
Cheyenne Marquez walked, and Quintero unloaded the bags.
Â
The other two players to reach safely were an Aubree Breggs single back up the box in the second and a
Kelsey Valo base on balls during the third.
Â
Abby Cousins had the only two strikeouts from the pitching staff while
Riley Johnson got two of the three batters out that she faced.
Â
The regular season will conclude this coming weekend, Friday April 28 and Saturday, April 29 when the Falcons recognize its half-dozen seniors including Beggs, Cousins,
Destini Trahan,
Aryell Aguiar,
Melayna Lopez, and
Aracely Araiza versus Lubbock Christian.
