ODESSA, TX – UT Permian Basin Softball found a groove late in game three against #4 UT Tyler Wednesday afternoon.
Down 6-0 heading into the bottom of the third, UTPB started to show some signs of life when freshman catcher
Angelina Arriaga collected the team's first hit of the game to lead off the inning.
Morgan McQueen pinch ran for Arriaga before a walk and an error by the Patriots loaded the bases with no outs and
Aracely Araiza stepping to the plate.
Araiza got behind in the count early and worked it back before walloping a pitch to right field deep enough to allow McQueen to tag from third and stroll into home for the team's first run of the day in the third inning.
UTPB added on two-run bomb by
Julia Bumford off the UT-Tyler relief pitcher in the bottom of the fifth to score Araiza but could not make up enough ground as the Falcons drop game three 11-3.
Bumford, Arriaga and
Emily Andress collected hits for UTPB on the day while Bumford (two) and Araiza (one) drove in at least one run each.
Trahan took the loss for the Falcons going 4.2 innings with four strikeouts.
Next up for the Falcons is an away series vs Midwestern State University. The double header in will be Saturday with game one starting at 2pm. The final game will be Sunday starting at Noon.
