OKLAHOMA CITY, OK –
Angelina Arriaga was clutch on Wednesday afternoon by being part of both run-scoring plays including a RBI double to left center in the top of the sixth, but the University of Texas-Permian Basin softball team could not hold onto a 2-1 lead and fell 3-2 at Oklahoma Christian University.
Arriaga would finish the day going 1-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a sacrifice as she was also the batter of record when
Cheyenne Marquez scored on an errant throw from the OCU second baseman after Arriaga sacrificed Marquez from second to third to tie the game at 1-1.
UTPB nearly took the lead later in the second inning when
Keri Sanford's single to center field looked to score
Aubree Beggs from second, but a perfect throw from the centerfielder was on time to record the out and end the threat.
In the top of the sixth, Arriaga doubled to left center to score Bumford from second, but another well-timed relay from the centerfielder to the short stop would record the final out of the sixth.
Marquez and Bumford both led UTPB in hits with two each and in runs scored with one each.
Next up for the Falcons return home for a three-game set against Eastern New Mexico beginning on Saturday with a 2 pm first pitch and then a first pitch time of 1 pm for Sunday's first game then day's second game will start about 30 minutes after the first game.
