Stephanie Jimenez started her UT Permian Basin Softball career with a bang on Saturday, blasting a pair of home runs in her first two games with the Falcons. The junior finished the day 3-for-4 after also working a pair of walks.
(Stats were not immediately available for either game until late Saturday night)
In the opening game of the day the Falcons fell behind Fort Lewis, 2-0. In the third,
Julia Bumford got things going with a walk. Two batters later, Jimenez homered to tie the score at two. The Skyhawks responded with three in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead. The Falcons got things going in the sixth and had two-on with one-out and the tying run at the plate. A flyout to right and a ground ball ended their chances in the sixth and a quiet seventh ended the afternoon in favor of the Skyhawks.
In the second game, Jimenez got the Falcons on the board again with a solo homer against Colorado State - Pueblo. In the fifth,
Cheyenne Marquez doubled and came around to score on an
Emily Andress triple for the second run of the game.
Keri Sanford drove in another run in the sixth with an infield single for the final run of the day, but it was too late as the Thunder Wolves scored five runs in the first en route to a 14-3 final.
Riley Johnson had a solid showing, pitching in both games. She allowed three earned runs in 5.2 innings overall.
