After the second game of doubleheader action on Saturday UT Permian Basin Softball honored their graduating senior class, but during the day sophomore
Julia Bumford was the one racking up three hits.
The Falcons trailed early in game one of the doubleheader before the offense came to life.
Ashlynn Bradley scored on a ground ball by
Leslie Martinez to give the Falcons their first run of the day. In the third,
Aracely Araiza ripped a double to left to score
Melayna Lopez to cut the deficit in half. On the very next pitch, Bumford homered to dead center to tie the game at four. The Mustangs scored another run in the fifth to retake the lead at 5-4. The Falcon offense went quiet the rest of the way as that score would hold for the final.
The offense jumped out to the lead early in game two.
Aubree Beggs' sac fly plated a run followed by an error allowing
Valerie Gonzalez to score put the Falcons up 2-0. After the Mustangs put up a three-spot in the top of the fourth, the Falcons tied the score on a ground ball by
Aryell Aguiar. That was as close as things would get the rest of the way as they were held to just one hit and the Mustangs blew the game open for the 11-3 final.
Abby Cousins was terrific in relief in game one, allowing just one run over 5.1 innings.
