The Falcons
- The Falcons set the program record for wins on Friday with a doubleheader sweep of the defending national champions, West Texas A&M. Becky Berth allowed just three hits and one run in the opening game, while Abby Cousins allowed just one run over 6.0 innings of relief in game two. The Falcons walked it off in the second game after Aracely Ariaza tied things with a triple. Julia Bumford singled her home as the Falcons swept the Lady Buffs for the first time in program history.
- With the sweep, the Falcons remain alive for the Lone Star Conference playoffs. They are currently three games behind St. Edward's for the final spot with four games remaining on both sides.
- Valerie Gonzalez continues to have a sensational season. The senior leads the team with a .361 batting average and 52 hits. Her 31 runs are tied for the second most in a single season in team history.
- Aracely Araiza needs just one more double to move into second place in program history in a single season.  Â
- The Falcons and the Greyhounds have split each of the last two series, with three games decided by two runs or less. This is the Hounds first trip to Odessa since the 2018 season.
The Greyhounds
- The Greyhounds have won four straight, including a sweep on Friday of in-state rival Western New Mexico. Overall they have won seven of their last eight.
- Things are tight in the race for the final LSC playoff spot. The Hounds are just a game in back of St. Edward's for the final spot with four games left.
- Pitcher Brook Leger leads the conference with 159 strikeouts. The sophomore has seven games with at least 10 strikeouts this season, inlcuding 10 against Western New Mexico on Friday. She has a high of 18 earlier this season in a one-hitter against Fort Lewis.
This is the penultimate series for the Falcons on the year. They'll welcome Western New Mexico to celebrate senior day next Saturday to close the regular season. Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the team all season long.
