Falcon Pitching Shutdowns RMAC Opponents

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 UT Permian Basin Softball got their best pitching performances of the young season on Sunday.  Becky Berth, Abby Cousins, and Destini Trahan combined to allow just three earned runs over 14 innings against Colorado Christian and Adams State.
 
In the opening game the Falcons struck first thanks to a defensive miscues.  Lani Graft started the inning by getting hit by a pitch.  A pair of wild pitches moved her over to third.  With two outs, Aracely Araiza singled through the left side to bring her home for the 1-0 lead.  Destini Trahan cruised through the first four innings, allowing just a pair of base runners. 
 
In the fifth, a throwing error allowed Colorado Christian to extend the inning.  They'd go on to score four times in the inning before Abby Cousins struck out the final batter.  The Falcons rallied in the bottom half of the inning and put runners in scoring position with one out.  Graft hit a sac fly to left to score Valerie Gonzalez to cut the deficit to two. 
 
In the sixth the Falcons put runners in scoring position once again.  A walk to Aracely Araiza and single by Sydney Bishop, followed by a wild pitch set the Falcons up.  The rally ended on a force out at home and headed to the seventh.  The Cougars added a pair in the top of the seventh for the eventual 6-2 final.
 
The second game of the day quickly turned into a pitcher's duel.  The Falcons pushed across a run in the fifth when Morgan McQueen scored on an error by the left fielder.  The Falcons went to the seventh trailing by two.  Evelyn Duran walked and Ashlynn Bradley reached on an error to put two on with no outs.  Aryell Aguiar singled to load the bases with one out.  A fielder's choice at the plate and a strike out ended the threat and the ballgame 3-1.
 
Becky Berth went the distance striking out four.  Gonzalez picked up three hits on the day while Araiza had two hits in the opening game.
