Trailing by three with time winding down on the UT Permian Basin Men's Soccer playoff chances, the Falcon offense came to life scoring three unanswered goals in the final 25 minutes of regulation and then one in overtime to stun Lubbock Christian 4-3.
The Chaps found the back of the net in just the third minute of the contest and scored once more just 14 seconds into the second half for the 2-0 lead. After a penalty kick, it was 3-0 Chaps in the 57
th minute of action. That's when the Falcons came to life. Freshman
Brandon Bernal found the back of the net from the left side for his first of the season and get the Falcons on the board.
The Falcons stayed on the attack with their season on the line. In the 76
th minute
Kasper Wallstroem scored off a pass from
Gustavo Barroso to trim the deficit to one. Just 90 seconds later,
Matias Pereira scored his first of the season to tie the score late in the game and force overtime.
In the overtime period the Falcons completely controlled the pace. The offense stayed on the attack and after a foul just outside the box earned a free kick. That free kick found the foot of senior Michael Nweke for the goal and the unbelievable comeback win.
The offense had pressure on the Chaps all evening recording 14 shots with seven landing on net. Barroso was terrific at finding his teammates recording three assists.
Salvador Vargas Ramos had the assist on the game-winner.
