Few people know the Permian Basin better than Lonnie Lawrence. Born and raised in Odessa, Lawrence has been a long-time supporter of UT Permian Basin Athletics donating to the programs in any way he can.
"I was excited when they first announced the University was starting an athletics program," said Lawrence. "Ever since I've wanted to see it succeed and evolve into a big-time program. The Permian Basin needs a major college athletics program to help keep students in the area."
Over the years Lawrence has helped the Falcons in various ways, donating money and services to help the different programs prosper. Lawrence is the owner of AmeriFlush, who provides services at many of the UTPB Athletic events. No matter his contributions, he just wants to see UTPB flourish.
"It's important for the area to keep the students here in the Permian Basin," said Lawrence. "Good athletic programs help attract the students."
Lawrence has always had a passion for football and that carries over to Saturdays when the Falcons play. There he gets to interact with other Falcon donors and every time he leaves more excited from the energy brought by everyone.
"It's exciting to share the Champions Fund Suite with all the other donors," said Lawrence. "All the contributors feed off each other and we want to see the programs succeed. It's also assuring to see the UTPB staff and coaches and feel their excitement about the direction of the department and University as a whole."
The excitement is growing as the Falcons are prepared to move into the new D. Kirk Edwards Family Human Performance Center and are coming off a year where seven programs surpassed or were on pace to surpass their win totals from the year before, before seasons were canceled in the spring.
"I'm looking forward to the new facility opening on campus and for the future of the University," said Lawrence. "All that and athletics will certainly be attractive for students and help our community grow."
