Box Score 2 UT Permian Basin softball kicked off its 2020 regular season with a pair of games at the Arkansas Tech Invitational in Conroe, TX on Saturday, splitting with a 5-3 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State after falling in the opener 6-3 to Henderson State.
UTPB got the bats going early in the top of the first
Lani Graft singled to center driving in
Leslie Martinez. Martinez later scored in the inning on an
Aracely Araiza triple to right center also scoring
Marissa Salinas for a 3-0 Falcon lead.
The Falcons kept the sticks going scoring two more in the second. An
Alyssa Lopez triple to left scored
Sydney Bishop for a 4-0 lead. Martinez later brought in Lopez on a RBI ground ball to short for the 5-0 Falcon lead.
Southeastern Oklahoma scored two runs of their own in the top of the third and one run in the seventh giving the Falcons the 5-3 victory.
Abrie Castillo dominated on the mound giving up one earned run and striking out four in the complete game performance. Salinas and Araiza got two hits and Araiza led the team with two RBI during the contest.
In the first game, Henderson State grabbed the first lead of the game scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. UTPB answered back with one of their own in the top of the second.

The Reddies got one back in the bottom half to go back up by two. The Falcons once again brought it back within one in the third on a RBI triple by Jessica Gonzalez bringing home
Alicia Marion.
April Arellano tied the game at three in the top of the fourth on a single to right field scoring
Marissa Salinas. Henderson State scored three unanswered runs in the fourth to go up and eventually win 6-3.
Alicia Marion and
Marissa Salinas were the only Falcons to collect multiple hits in the game even though UTPB had 11 hits in the game.
Next up for UTPB will be another double header tomorrow starting at 12:30 PM the Falcons will face Minnesota Duluth and at 3:00 PM they will take on #7 Central Oklahoma for the final day of the Arkansas Tech Invitational.
