After months of anticipation, the state-of-the-art athletic training room has opened in the D. Kirk Edwards Family Human Performance Center. October 12 marked the first day student-athletes could use the room for rehab and getting checked by the team's athletic trainer.
"It feels great. I think this facility is going to be a game changer for the health and wellness of our student-athletes," said Head Athletic Trainer
Tom Lechtenberg. "You're going to struggle to find another institution with a better facility. The amount of resources that are available here are numerous and it's a huge upgrade over to our previous facility. This is going to help our student-athletes for years to come."
The Falcons will have major upgrades with the new facility. The most noticeable of these upgrades is the new hydrotherapy area. The room has four SwimEx pools, including the largest therapy pool they provide, multiple 13-foot cold tubs, and a hot tub. The room includes upgrades to the department's NormaTec recovery system, with more variety and attachments over the ones in the old facility. An x-ray machine for on-site extremity scans and a diagnostic ultrasound machine for soft tissue evaluation are a part of the facility as well as other machines to aid in recovery.
"The staff is thrilled to be working in a state-of-the-art facility," said Lechtenberg. "Our student athletic trainers have a great teaching facility. Our student-athletes now have more resources for them in not just recovery, but injury healing and prevention."
