Game Recap: Softball |

Castillo Strong in Circle as Falcons Honor Staff, Faculty before Saturday Doubleheader against Tarleton

UT Permian Basin softball returned to its home field Saturday afternoon to close out all three games of its three-game set against Tarleton State after Friday night's contest was halted in the bottom of the 6th due to thunderstorms. The #23 TexAnns closed out an 8-0 win over the Falcons before the start of the regularly-scheduled doubleheader, and used a pair of home runs to earning two 6-0 and 7-0 wins over the Falcons.

Tarleton State struck first in the opener in the top of the third, scoring the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly. Tanna Huie later added a pair on a single to right to increase the lead to 3-0.

Huie was involved two innings later when she reached on an error with two outs that scored a run from third to put the TexAnns up 4-0.

A pair of doubles in the top of the seventh added two runs for a 6-0 Tarleton lead.

TSU got off to a hot start in the top of the first in game two, scoring six runs without recording an out, including a grand slam by Amanda Conner for the early 6-0 lead.

Abrie Castillo came in to pitch in the top of the first and limited the TexAnns the rest of the game to just one run, a Huie home run in the fourth inning. Castillo allowed just five hits and one walk in the seven-inning outing.

Prior to the game, the Falcons recognized a special group of UT Permian Basin faculty and staff members that have gone above and beyond in helping UTPB students achieve success.

The Falcons are back home this week in midweek non-conference action, hosting University of the Southwest in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.
