Box Score UT Permian Basin softball answered multiple times on offense against one of the best teams in both the Lone Star Conference and the nation as #9 West Texas A&M took the LSC series opener 6-4 Friday night at the UTPB Softball Field.
The Lady Buffs struck first, scoring in the top of the first when Kayla Moore hit a three-run blast deep to center field with a pair of runners on base for a 3-0 lead.
The Falcons scored next, getting on the scoreboard when
April Arellano singled through the left side of the field with a pair of runners in scoring position to plate
Alicia Marion and
Valerie Gonzalez to close within one at 3-2.
The Lady Buffs found some separation late in the game, scoring on a wild pitch in the top of the 6th and adding a pair of runs in the seventh for a 6-2 advantage.
The Falcons didn't quit, putting pressure on West Texas in the seventh. when
Ruby Sanchez walked with a full count and
Alicia Marion hit a ball off of the pitcher to single in the infield as both runners advanced into scoring position on the play..
Alyssa Lopez came in to score on a ground out by
Valerie Gonzalez for the second out of the inning, and
Vanessa Alonzo came up clutch with a base hit through the right side of the infield to score Marion and bring the tying run to the plate with two outs.
Gonzalez paced the Falcon offense out of the leadoff spot, recording two hits and a walk with a run scored and an RBI as seven different UTPB players had a hit on the night. Marion scored twice to lead UTPB.
The Falcons return to action Saturday, hosting West Texas A&M in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
