2/16/2019 7:33:00 AM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 UT Permian Basin softball kicked off a five game stretch over three days in Tuscon, Arizona, rallying in the nightcap to win late against Fort Lewis and collect a 4-3 victory over the Skyhawks. The Falcons lost earlier in the afternoon, dropping their opening game 9-0 against Simon Fraser.

UTPB rallied after Fort Lewis scored the first three runs of the game in the top of the third for a 3-0 lead. Alyssa Lopez hit a single to right in the bottom half of the inning and scored on a pair of errors when the ball was thrown away by the second baseman. Courtney Cagle pulled the Falcons within one in the frame with a single to right that brought in Jessica Gonzales.

April Arellano tied it for UTPB in the fourth, hitting a sacrifice fly to plate Abrie Castillo and even the game at 3-3.

Castillo later would score the game's winning run as the Falcons took advantage of an error in the bottom of the sixth inning on a fly ball to the outfield.

Castillo locked up the win for the Falcons, entering with two outs in the top of the seventh to get the final out of the game and record the save.

Sloan Springfield earned her second win of the season, allowing five hits, three walks and three earned runs. She struck out one in her 6.2 innings of action.

Gonzales led the Falcons with a pair of hits in four at bats while Arellano walked twice and Lopez reached twice on a hit and walk.

Earlier in the day, the Falcons were held to just two hits in a 9-0 shutout against Simon Fraser.

Courtney Cagle and Kayla Martin each went 1-2 at the plate for the Falcon offense in the loss.

UTPB is back in action in Tucson Saturday, facing Oklahoma Baptist at 11 a.m. with their second game to follow immediately against Black Hills State.
