Box Score 2 Valerie Gonzalez and
Alyssa Lopez continued their hot start to the 2019 season Sunday night, but UT Permian Basin softball dropped a pair of games 5-2 to Lubbock Christian and 14-3 against Colorado Colorado Springs at the LCU Invitational in Lubbock.
Home runs in the first inning, a pair of two run blasts, put the Falcons in a 4-0 hole after the first inning against Lubbock Christian.
Lopez gave the Falcons their first run of the game against the Lady Chaps, singling up the middle in the top of the second to drive in
Courtney Cagle.
Gonzalez crossed home an inning later, scoring as
Kayla Martin reached on a throwing error by the third baseman in the top of the third.
Gonzalez led the Falcons with a pair of hits in the opener, going 2-3 at the plate.
Martin led the Falcons on offense against the Cougars, ending the game with a pair of hits in three at-bats, including a solo shot home run in the bottom of the third. She earlier recorded her first RBI of the day in the bottom of the first on a ground out with the bases loaded that gave the Falcons their first run.
UT Permian Basin is back in Odessa for the first time this coming week when the Falcons host University of the Southwest Tuesday afternoon. First pitch for the doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m.
