Box Score UT Permian Basin (16-33, 4-23) fell to Texas Woman's University (25-17, 13-11) in their final home game of the season, 8-1.
The Pioneers were able to strike first with an RBI double by Lindy Kennedy in the second inning, and she would come around to score later in the inning to make it 2-0. The Pioneers added two more in the third on a Tara Solomon double and a home run by Tylia Sylestine. They would push the lead to six with a run in the fourth and another in the fifth.
UTPB would get a run in their half of the fifth inning. The Falcons would load the bases on a single by April Arellano, walk by Aubree Avila and Abby Hernandez was hit by a pitch with one out. Lizzie Souza would bunt in Arellano to make it 6-1. The Pioneers would score two more in the seventh on a home run by pitcher Cheyenne Mahy.
Sloan Springfield (2-14) started and took the loss for the Falcons while Mahy (12-6) got the win. Arellano had two of the Falcons five hits on the day.
The Falcons recognized the careers of their seniors after the game Saturday. UTPBÂ thanked seniors Adrianna Berzoza, Ashlynn Williams, and Lizzie Souza for their contributions during their time at UT Permian Basin.
UTPB wraps up its season next weekend with a three game series with Tarleton State starting Friday.
