Box Score 2 UT Permian Basin (16-32, 4-22) fell in the first two games of their final home series of the season to Texas Woman's (24-17, 12-11). The final in game one was 10-2 and game two was 4-0.
Texas Woman's came out hot in game one. They scored two in the first, four in the second and two in the third to lead 8-0. Their offense was led by Hazel Puempel with three RBI and a three-run home run by Jordan Kisselburg. UTPB scored a pair of their own in their half of the third inning. After Aubree Avila reached on a bunt single earlier in the inning, Jessica Gonzales knocked her in on a bunt single of her own. Maritza Rojas would drive her in immediately after with a double to make it 8-2. The Pioneers would score again in the fourth on a solo home run by Tylia Sylestine and again in the fifth to make it 10-2, which would be the final.
Game two would be a closer affair. The game would remain scoreless into the third inning before Puempel would drive in two on a double. The Pioneers would add two more on a two-run double by Kisselburg to make it 4-0. UTPB's bats went quiet as they were held to only four hits and two walks in the game.
Cindy Juarez (5-8) and Sloan Springfield (2-13) took the losses for UTPB while Cheyenne Mahy (11-6) and Raegyn Parrish (2-2) picked up wins for the Pioneers. Springfield went all seven innings allowing two earned runs on just six hits and walked none.
Avila led the UTPB offense with three hits including a double in the second game and a pair of stolen bases. Rojas and Gonzales added a pair of hits each to the cause.
UTPB wraps-up their home schedule tomorrow with Military Appreciation Day as well as Senior Day starting at 1 p.m. UTPB finishes their season next week on the road in Stephenville against Tarleton State.
