Men's and Women's Basketball to Kickoff Season with Falcon Madness

10/8/2018 2:23:00 PM

On Sunday, Oct. 14 the UT Permian Basin men's and women's basketball teams will be hosting their first ever Falcon Madness, joined by the Falcon cheer team, step team, band and the Flock.  Falcon Madness is a preseason showcase of the men's and women's teams as they officially start their practice seasons.

"This is a great opportunity to introduce the teams to the community," said men's head basketball coach Josh Newman, "We can show people who we are while we build a relationship with the community."

The madness starts at 7 p.m. with introductions of the women's basketball team.  They will then play a short scrimmage followed by a three-point shooting competition.  Both teams will then take their chances in a free throw competition up against the Falcon Flock.

"The energy on campus has made this time of year exciting for both basketball programs," said women's head basketball coach Rae Boothe, "To get everyone together is a great way to start and generate buzz before the season."

The men's basketball team will then scrimmage followed by a dunk competition.  The Falcon cheerleaders, step team and band are all also to perform during the event.  It will be closed with an open autograph session with the players.

Admission is free to the public and general admission.  The men's team officially starts their season on Nov. 9 in Colorado with a weekend trip to take on Adams State followed by Western State Colorado the next day.  The women's team also starts that weekend with a pair of games in Canyon, Texas when they take on Regis on Friday, Nov. 9 followed by Colorado at Colorado Springs on Nov. 10.
