Falcons Fight in Season Finale, Fall 2-0 in Canyon

UT Permian Basin women's soccer fell to #19 West Texas A&M 2-0, after keeping a shutout late into the game in their final game of the season.

West Texas A&M (15-2-1, 10-1-1) had a chance to take the lead early on a penalty kick.  Falcon (2-15, 1-11) goalkeeper Raeann Garcia stopped the kick to keep the game scoreless.  The Falcons would get a chance next but Ariel Roybal's shot would sail wide of the net.  WT would have another chance in the half but Khadidra Debesette's shot was cleared before crossing the line by the Falcon defense. 

After a scoreless first half, both defenses continued their strong play into the second half.  The Falcons would have a chance in the second half in the 71st minute.  Gipsey Gonzalez fired a shot on goal which would be saved, then a minute later Lupe Cordova and Kalia Beckwith would each have their shots blocked.  WT would break through in the 74th minute when Khaline Jacob bear Garcia to the near post and break the scoreless tie.  Beckwith and Roybal would each have a scoring opportunity late to tie the game, but Beckwith had her shot saved while Roybal missed just high.  A goal in the final minute ended the Falcons chances on the afternoon.

Garcia finished the game with 10 saves while Beckwith and Roybal led the team with two shots a piece.  Garcia finishes the season with 72 saves, which is fourth in the conference.
