Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Falcons Stun Lubbock Christian in Final Seconds on Senior Day

With three goals in the second half, including one in the final 30 seconds, the UT Permian Basin men's soccer team defeated division-leading Lubbock Christian on Senior Day 4-3.

Needing a win to guarantee a division title, the Chaps (8-6-3, 6-5-3) took the lead first.  Louis Callaghan started the scoring in the eighth minute, then Emilio Marti put one on target in the top left corner to go up 2-0 in the first 20 minutes.  The Falcons (2-15-1, 1-12-1) would answer quickly.  After a Santi Morales shot was deflected, Jacob Tellez struck the rebound to cut the deficit in half.  The game would remain that way heading into the half.

Early in the second half both teams would go down to 10 men after each receiving a red card.  Both defenses sunk in before a flurry of goals in the final 20 minutes.  Senior Lipe Lima found a loose ball just in front of the net and put it home for his first of the season and   to tie the game at two each.  The Chaps would try to retake the lead but Michael Nweke had three saves in a minute span including back to back shots.

In the 85th minute, the Falcons would take the lead.  Jacob Tellez would head in a cross for the 3-2 lead and his second of the game.  Just two minutes later Emilio Marti would score his second of the game from 10 yards to tie the game at three, with three minutes to go.  After a Nweke save, the Falcons would counter with less than a minute to go.  Oscar Canela chased a ball into the corner then dribbled into the center where his shot would beat the goalkeeper into the bottom corner of the net and give the Falcons the 4-3 lead with 29 seconds to go, which the Falcons would hold onto until the final whistle.

Nweke finished the game with nine saves on 12 chances.  Canela, Jordan Bradley and Julius Kracke were also credited with assists on the afternoon.  Canela's game-winner was his team-leadin sixth of the season.
