UTPB softball earned its first Heartland Conference series win of the year Saturday, picking up its second straight win over Rogers State 3-1 at the UTPB Softball Field in Odessa.

Chelsae Faries won her second game of the season in the circle for the Falcons, giving up one run on eight hits and a pair of walks in 6.1 innings. She struck out seven Hillcats on the afternoon.

UTPB had to play from behind early on when RSU scored the first run of the afternoon on a double by Carley Conley for a 1-0 lead after the top of the first.

The Falcons countered in the bottom of the inning when Mallory Hall hit a run-scoring single to drive in Irene Valdez and tie the game at 1-1.

Valdez came up big four innings later. With the score the same, Valdez got a base hit with a pair of runners on base to score Ashlynn Williams and Miley McKee and go on top 3-1.

Rogers State was able to put the tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh with one out, but Holly Herrington came in and recorded her second save of the season by ending the game on a line drive double play to wrap up the 3-1 victory.

Valdez had three of the team's five hits with a perfect day at the plate, driving in two and scoring once.

The Falcons go on the road entering their final week of action, traveling to Canyon Tuesday afternoon for two games against West Texas A&M.
