Box Score 2 UTPB softball recovered from an 8-2 defeat against Rogers State to come back with a 6-5 win over the Hillcats Friday afternoon at the UTPB Softball Field.
Rogers State took control of the opener with a four-run top of the second, breaking a 1-1 tie to go on top 5-1.
The Hillcats added a pair in the fourth and one in the five to grab an 8-11 advantage.
UTPB got one in the bottom of the seventh on a single by
Chelsae Faries that scored
Mallory Hall.
The Falcons got their first run in the bottom of the first when
Nikki Salazar singled home
Irene Valdez.
UTPB's fortunes turned around in game two when the Falcons scored the first six runs of the game.
Texas-Permian Basin got a pair in the second, taking a 2-20 lead when
Miley McKee grounded out to the pitcher to score Faries for the first run of the game.
Ashlynn Williams later singled into right to drive home
Niki DiSera.
DiSera added a third run in the fourth when she scored for the second time in the game on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth.
The Falcons got three runs in the third, grabbing their first of the frame on a single by
Adrianna Berzoza to score Salazar.
Mallory Hall scored later on a throwing error after Faries laid down a sac bunt, and Berzoza came in on a single by McKee.
Rogers State came back with a fury in the final innings, scoring twice in the sixth and putting up three runs on a pair of homers in the seventh, but
Holly Herrington picked up her first save of the season in recording the final out of the game.
Kim Alonzo took the win for UTPB, giving up five runs on 11 hits and a walk in 6.2 innings.
Valdez, McKee and Williams led the offense with a pair of hits, while DiSera scored twice and McKee drove in a pair.
The teams are back to close out the series Saturday, returning to action in game three at noon.
