A pair of first inning runs proved to be enough for #15 St. Mary's Thursday afternoon as the Rattlers shut out UTPB 2-0 in the first game for both teams at the 2014 Heartland Conference Softball Championships in San Antonio.
Reagan Patterson drove in the only runs of the game in the bottom of the first, scoring a pair on a two-out double into center for a 2-0 lead.
Emily Brittain held the Falcons to just one hit, a
Taylor Clancy single into left in the third. The Falcons did draw three walks on the day, two of the pree passes being drawn by
Nikki Brailsford.
Desiree Valero took the loss in the circle for UTPB, allowing two runs off of five hits. She walked two on the afternoon and struck out one.
The Falcons meet Texas A&M International Friday afternoon in the first elimination game of the tournament at 2 p.m.
