4/5/2014 7:00:00 PM

UTPB Softball earned a sweep of Oklahoma Panhandle State in the team's three Heartland Conference games this weekend Saturday afternoon with a 13-6 win over the Aggies in the first game of the day at Aggie Field in Goodwell, Okla. OPSU won a non-conference game between the two teams 5-3 to end the weekend.

UTPB came back in the second inning after giving up a run in the bottom of the first, scoring Mallory Hall and Aurora Burks on an error to go on top 2-1.

Trailing once more when OPSU scored twice in the bottom of the second, Anna Hollingsworth went deep after a Taleas Marble walk to go back on top 4-3.

Tied at 4-4 through three innings following the Aggies second home run of the game, Jennie Quam doubled to score Burks and Taylor Clancy in the top of the fourth to lead 6-4. Nikki Brailsford singled into left field later in the inning to drive home Quam for a three-run advantage.

OPSU cut the lead down to a run with two runs of its own in the bottom of the fourth, but the Falcons stretched the lead back to two on a home run by Miley McKee to lead off the top of the fifth.

The Falcons put the game away with five runs in the top of the fifth as McKee drove in two more, a single by Clancy scored one and two runs scored when Jennie Quam reached on an error.

UTPB had four different players with two hits and had five players score at least two runs in the game as Hollingsworth crossed home plate three times.

The Falcons were stuck playing from behind again in the non-conferece game that followed when the Aggies scored three times in the bottom of the fourth, two runs scoring on Madison Heathington's second home run of the day.

Taleas Marble singled on an infield hit to the shortstop with the bases loaded to score Quam for the team's first run, and a two-run triple later in the inning off the bat of Clancy tied the game at 3-3.

Oklahoma Panhandle State scored twice in the bottom of the fifth for what ended up being the last runs of the game to take the 5-3 win.

UTPB returns to road action this Tuesday, traveling to Hobbs, N.M., for a doubleheader at University of the Southwest.
