Lubbock Christian softball closed out a four-game weekend with UTPB Saturday afternoon, defeating the Falcons 9-1 and 8-6 Saturday afternoon at PlainsCapital Park in Lubbock.
Trailing 2-0 in the opener, the Falcons got their only run of the game with
Nikki Brailsford was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score
Aurora Burks from third.
Lubbock Christian came back to put six runs up in its half of the third inning behind seven hits and three home runs to increase its lead to 8-1.
The Lady Chaps added another run in the bottom of the fourth to end the game after the Falcons completed their next inning at the plate for the eight-run win.
The UTPB offense fared better in the non-conference second game of the day, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning when
Niki DiSera hit a one out single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and was the benefactor of a pair of illegal pitches to score the first run of the game.
Tied in the second inning after Lubbock Christian evened the score with a run,
Jennie Quam gave UTPB a 3-1 lead with a one-out single up the middle to drive home
Dee Gaona and
Sidney Freeze.
Brailsford added to the lead in the top of the third, scoring on a throwing error when
Miley McKee grounded out to help the Falcons to a 4-1 advantage.
Lubbock Christian came back in the bottom of the third, scoring three more runs to tie the game at 4-4.
The Lady Chaps doubled up on their run total in the fourth, scoring four more times for an 8-4 lead through four innings.
UTPB added a fifth run in the top of the fifth when
Taleas Marble scored on a two-out error at second, and the Falcons got a sixth run in the top of the seventh when Quam scored on a double by Brailsford.
UTPB hits the road next weekend, traveling to Rogers State for a three-game league series starting at 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
