UTPB Softball dropped a pair of midweek non-conference contests Tuesday afternoon, falling to #1 West Texas A&M 9-1 and 12-3
The Falcons picked up their lone run in the opener when trailing 4-0, scoring when
Nikki Brailsford reached on a ground ball to third that was thrown away at first, allowing
Aurora Burks to score from second on the play.
UTPB came back from trailing 3-0 in game two, scoring one in the bottom of the second when
Anna Hollingsworth doubled to left center to drive home
Miley McKee from second.Â
The Falcons tied the game with two more in the bottom of the third, taking advantage of two consecutive dropped fly balls in the outfield to lead off the inning, the second to score
Taylor Clancy from second base. A sacrifice bunt moved
Jennie Quam over to third, and a squeeze bunt back up the middle to the pitcher by Brailsford scored Quam to even the game at 3-3.
The Lady Buffs took control in the top of the fifth, tripling their run total with six in the frame and added three more in the top of the sixth for a 12-3 win.
UTPB returns to conference play this weekend, traveling to Austin for a lone Friday game and Saturday doubleheader against St. Edward's.
