The University of Texas of the Permian Basin softball team dropped both of their games at the ASU George McCorkle Classic Saturday afternoon, dropping a 4-2 decision to host Angelo State before losing 10-0 in five innings against Colorado State - Pueblo.
UTPB took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first against #4 Angelo State, scoring the first runs of the game as
Taleas Marble reached on an error with two on and two outs that allowed
Anna Hollingsworth to score from third.
Jackie Guzman followed with an RBI single into center that scored
Kara Isbel.
The Rambelles struck back in the bottom of the third, loading the bases on an error that would have gotten UTPB out of the inning and scoring one on a passed ball. Two more came in to score on a double by Ambra Hill to give ASU a 3-2 lead after three.
ASU added an insurance run in the sixth, scoring one more on a two out single with two on to increase its lead to the eventual final score of 4-2.
Desiree Valero struck out six in the six inning outing, giving up one earned run on six hits and four walks.
The Falcons struggled later in the day against Colorado State - Puebo as the Thunderwolves scored 10 runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings for a 10-0 win.
CSU-Pueblo scored three unearned runs in the top of the third, all with two outs, in taking a 3-0 lead. The Thunderwolves added four more in the fourth and scored three more in the fifth to end the game after five innings.
UTPB is back in action next weekend, traveling to Abilene, Texas, for a doubleheader against Abilene Christian. Saturday's games begin at 2 p.m.
