LAREDO – Despite playing without two of its starters, the UTPB softball team took a 2-1 victory over Texas A&M International.  The Falcons took two of three games from the Dustdevils and look to be peaking at the right moment.

UTPB will be the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Heartland Conference Tournament and will take on regular season champion St. Mary's in Austin on Thursday.  Due to the lack of an adequate facility, St. Mary's deferred hosting duties to St. Edward's.

The Dustdevils took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second after Samantha Carrillo hit a solo homer over the center field fence.  Sarah Johnson held the Falcons to just two hits over the next three innings until Lesli Ericson hit the game-winning RBI double down the left field line which scored Tieifa Dueberry, who reached on a two-out walk.

Katelyn Stanley started the rally with a two-out walk before Amanda Cejudo replaced her as a courtesy runner.  Cejudo would move to second after Dueberry's walk and would later score thanks to a Duestdevil error.

The one-run advantage was enough for Tomie Ellard, who pitched the final five shutout innings where she gave up five hits and struck out one.

The Falcons ended the regular season with a 16-30 overall record to go along with a 7-8 Heartland Conference mark.
