Lubbock Christian pounded out 21 hits including eight for extra bases as the Chaps swept a double header from The University of Texas of the Permian Basin winning the first 2-1 before taking the second 5-0.
UTPB struck first in the opener when
Chelsey Morgan grounded out to second base, allowing
Whitney Kuhrt to score from third. Kuhrt led off the inning with a walk and would advance to second on a wild pitch. Katie Walker picked up one of the Falcons' five hits – a single to left which put Kuhrt on third.
The lead would not last long as Lubbock Christian answered in the top of the second thanks to a triple by Andrea Argee, who later come around to score on a single by Stephanie Rendon.
The score would stay that way until the fourth when Rendon struck again with another RBI single to left to plate Kim Frazier, which proved to be the game-winner. Lubbock Christian starter Meagan Navarrette tossed 4.1 innings, giving up one run off four hits for her tenth win of the season, while Sarah Mendez recorded her fourth save after pitching the final 2.2 innings where she gave up just one hit.
Right fielder
Lucero Porras went 2-for-3 picking up multiple hits for the first time in her career.
Cene Padilla and
Tieifa Dueberry also had hits in the game.
In the second game, the duo of Amanda Longorio and Carollin Hall kept the UTPB bats at bay, allowing just one extra base hit and didn't allow more than one hit in an inning.
The game was scoreless until the Chaps put up a lone run in the third before putting up two more in the fourth and single runs in the fifth and sixth.
UTPB will remain at home this weekend when it hosts league-leading St. Edward's for a three-game Heartland Conference series starting Friday at 2 p.m.
