FALCONS STRUGGLE IN OKLAHOMA, LOSE SERIES

3/31/2012 8:13:00 PM

game three
game four

GOODWELL, Okla. – The Panhandle State pitching staff held The University of Texas of the Permian Basin softball team to just four hits and allowed just one run as the Aggies won the third game of the series 3-1.  They would go on to finish the afternoon with an 8-5 win over the Falcons.

Tieifa Dueberry was the lone bright spot for the Falcons offensively as she hit her second home run of the season in the top of the sixth to cut the Aggie lead in half.  Panhandle State opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third after picking up three of its seven hits in the game.

UTPB starter Desiree Valero tossed six innings where she gave up three runs off seven hits while striking out five.

In the second game, the Falcons pounded out 10 hits including a solo homer by Cene Padilla in the fourth inning, but the Aggies countered with a six-run second that proved to be too much for UTPB to overcome.  The win for the Aggies will be counted as a non-conference contest as the league only counts three-game series.

The Falcons will return home on Wednesday to host nationally-ranked Angelo State in a double header at the UTPB softball complex starting at 2 p.m.
