FALCONS SPLIT FIRST TWO GAMES OF SERIES WITH PANHANDLE STATE

GOODWELL, Okla. – The University of Texas of the Permian Basin started the three-game series with Panhandle State on the right foot winning the first game 7-2, but dropped the second 3-2. 
 
The Falcons used a five-run sixth inning in the opener which extended their lead to 7-0.  Chelsey Morgan hit an RBI double to score Jackie Guzman, who pinch ran for Anna Hollingsworth.  Hollingsworth led off the inning by reaching on an infield error to start the rally.  Morgan and Whitney Kuhrt each had two of the seven Falcon hits on the day. 
 
Cene Padilla followed with a run scoring single to plate Morgan before Leslie Walker hit a sacrifice fly to score Padilla.  UTPB would take advantage of a passed ball and a sacrifice bunt by Lucero Porras to take a commanding 7-0 lead. 
 
Panhandle State scored single runs in the fifth and sixth inning but UTPB starter Desiree Valero shut down the Aggies by allowing two runs off five hits while striking out two. 
 
In the second game, Brandi Heath hit an RBI single to break a 2-2 tie which proved to be the difference as the Aggies upset the Falcons in the nightcap. 
 
UTPB opened the game with a run in the top of the first when Tomie Ellard reached on an error, allowing Kuhrt to score.  Kuhrt led off the game with a single and would later steal second.  Panhandle State answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at one. Porras gave the Falcons a 2-1 lead after hitting an RBI single in the top of the fourth to score Amanda Cejudo, who pinch ran for Hollingsworth. 
 
Like the first inning, the Aggies tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth before scoring the go-ahead run in the fifth. 
 
UTPB moved to 11-21 on the year and 4-4 in Heartland Conference play.  The two teams will play the third and final game tomorrow at noon.
