DENTON –
The University of Texas of the Permian Basin softball team is getting used to playing into extra innings and it finally paid off as the Falcons shocked No. 8 Angelo State 8-6 in a nine-inning affair.  The win capped off a day that saw UTPB drop a 6-5, eight inning game to Tarleton State.

In the Angelo State game, the Falcons scored a season-high eight runs, including four in the second inning thanks to an RBI single by Katie Walker before Courtney Cernoch hit a three-run double to center.  UTPB had six hits in the game, five of which were singles.

The Rambelles cut in to the Falcon lead in the bottom of the third after a bases loaded walk put them on the board.  UTPB added to its lead in the fourth when Walker led off the inning thanks to an error and would eventually come around to score on a wild pitch.

Angelo State kept the game close with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-3 before the Falcons put up a run in the top of the seventh to take a commanding 6-3 lead.  With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Angelo State hit a three-run homer to tie the game at six, sending it to extra innings.

Neither team would score in the eight, but UTPB was able to plate two runs thanks to two Angelo State errors.  Desiree Valero shut the Rambelles down in the bottom of the ninth for the Falcons' third win of the season.

In the Tarleton State game, the TexAnns broke a 5-5 tie in the top of the eighth with a sacrifice fly, handing the Falcons their fourth extra inning loss of the season.

UTPB will conclude the Best Western Spring Fling tomorrow with a game against Texas Woman's at 1:30 p.m.
