The University of Texas of the Permian Basin men's swimming team set three pool records as the men's and women's team competed in their lone scheduled dual on campus this season, with each team earning dominating wins Thursday afternoon over McMurray.
Grant Griffith shaved .47 of a second off of the 50 yard freestyle mark in the UTPB pool, taking first in the event in 21.77.
Jake Mefford took first place the men's 100 yard backstroke with a time of 54.64, beating the former pool mark of 54.88.
Alex Ruata cut five-hundredths off of the pool mark in the 100 yard breaststroke, winning the event in 59.54.
The Falcons took first place in all 26 events contested Thursday afternoon, and had four swimmers (
Hunter Gnoza,
Grant Griffith,
Alex Ruata, and
Amanda Thompson) each win a pair of individual events.
UT-Permian Basin travels to its first large meet of the season next weekend, competing at the 2012 Hendrix Classic and Relays Oct. 26 & 27, hosted by Hendrix University in Conway, Ark.
