4/2/2011 7:30:06 PM

WICHITA, Kan. – Chelsey Morgan went 2-for-3 at the plate, drove in two runs and scored a run as The University of Texas of the Permian Basin softball team took an 8-5 win over Newman. The celebration didn't last long as the Jets came back to win the fourth game of the series 11-2 in five innings.

The Falcon bats came alive in the first game of the day as they pounded out 15 hits including a double by Courtney Cernoch. Six different UTPB players had multiple-hit games, including a 3-for-4 performance with two runs scored by Erica Rangel

With Newman clinging to a 3-2 lead, the Falcons busted out for six runs off six hits in the top of the sixth inning to jump out to an 8-3 lead. It proved to be enough for UTPB starter Desiree Valero, who struck out a season-high 11 batters for her eighth win of the year.

In the final game of the series, Newman scored early and often, including a seven-run third inning, marking the second time in the series the Jets ended the game in five innings.

After the four-game series, UTPB moved to 14-23 overall and 2-7 in Heartland Conference play, while Newman is now 5-21 and 2-8 in league action.
